Volleyball team to host team scrimmage

Appalachian State’s volleyball will hold an inter-squad scrimmage Aug. 22, directly after Fan Fest ends, head coach Matt Ginipro announced. The scrimmage will take place in the Holmes Center and admission is free.

Pioneers host five-team scrimmage Friday
They may come from smaller schools, but Watauga’s opponents in its upcoming jamboree have impressive credentials.

Watauga can’t help Crawdads

HICKORY - Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson threw out the first pitch during Watauga County Day at L.P. Frans Stadium Monday night at the Hickory Crawdads game.

Young quarterbacks grasping ASU system
With temperatures in the mid 80s, Appalachian State worked out on the Kidd Brewer Stadium turf for two hours and 45 minutes in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts Monday. The session was ASU’s second in shoulder pads — the Mountaineers will don full pads for the first time on Tuesday.

App State to induct five into Hall
The year 2000 was one of the most successful in Appalachian State athletics history.

App women release slate
Highlighted by 14 home contests, a Thanksgiving trip to Pittsburgh, Pa. and an ever-challenging Southern Conference slate, Appalachian State’s women’s basketball team has yet another difficult set of opponents scheduled for the 2009-10 season.

Watauga goes mad at night
Watauga’s first practice in full pads capped a special night that included a raffle to win $5,000 prize, a dinner catered by Dan’l Boone Inn, a keynote speech from Appalachian State head coach Jerry Moore and motivational speaker R.V. Brown.

Michigan QB not coming to ASU
Though former Michigan quarterback/receiver Justin Feagin wants to transfer to Appalachian State, the chances of that happening are non-existent.
