Watauga National rolls to victory
Watauga National, the 11-12 Little League All-Star team, got a fast start in its game with West Caldwell Thursday and rolled to a 14-1 victory in the loser’s bracket of the District 7 tournament at Optimist Park.
Post 29 beats Huntersville
GRANITE FALLS - Caldwell County Post 29, which has three Watauga players on its roster, got a complete game from Cody Poarch on the mound and beat Huntersville 10-2 Thursday night at M.S. Deal Stadium. It gave Caldwell a 3-1 series victory in the first round of the Area IV playoffs.
Quate, Harrow earn honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Third baseman Isaac Harrow and relief pitcher Zach Quate represent Appalachian State on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Rawlings all-Atlantic Region second team, the ABCA announced last week.
Watauga blasts Caldwell
Once Watauga’s 11-12 year-old Little League softball all-star team adjusted to the slower pitching of West Caldwell, there was little West could do to stop them.

50-mile winner
Dean Lyons crossed the finish line first in the 50-mile version of the Blood, Sweat and Gears Bike Ride held Saturday in Watauga County. App State standout captures victory
EUGENE, Ore. - Finshing the 2009 outdoor season in style, Appalachian State track and field standouts Mason Campbell and Sean Soderman competed at the USATF junior nationals over the weekend in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Teammate Jared Stalling was also in action, competing in the shot put.
ASU wrestling releases schedule
Highlighted by six home matches and new competition, Appalachian State released its 2009-10 wrestling schedule, head coach John Mark Bentley announced.

CHARLOTTE - Huntersville scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to overtake Caldwell County Post 29 9-8 in the first round of the Area IV American Legion Baseball playoffs Monday night at North Mecklenburg High School's field.

Former Watauga and Western Carolina standout Johnny Greene had a big night last Thursday for the Bakersfield Blaze, the Texas Rangers' affiliate in the advanced Class-A California League.

Watauga nine takes two victories Sunday
